In Brazil, NIKIN is involved in a special tree-planting project that is very close to our hearts. This project, which is taking place in the home town of our CFO Carla, is pursuing an ambitious goal: the Cerradothat second largest ßte Brazil's biome and protect it in the long term. Together with the Instituto Terrenus and the support of the local population, we are making an important contribution to reforestation and raising awareness of the importance of this unique habitat.
A biome that deserves more attention
The Cerrado is often overlooked when it comes to saving Brazil's forests. While the Amazon rainforest is the focus of global attention, the Cerrado receives little attention in the media. Yet this biome is just as important for the global ecosystem.
The Cerrado:
- Harbors 5% of all animal and plant species worldwide.
- Contains over 12,000 different speciesmany of which only occur here.
- Already 50% destroyed by agriculture and deforestation 50% destroyed.
Our aim is not only to protect the Cerrado but also to raise awareness that there is more than the Amazon that needs protection and help.
The goal: 150,000 trees by the end of 2025
By the end of 2025, together with our partner 150,000 native trees plants - including the Tamboril-Treea particularly important tree species for this biome. Thanks to the support of our community the NIKIN donation to plant 80,000 of these 150,000 trees. This project is one of the large ßtenWe are proud to actively contribute to saving this unique habitat.
Hydrogel: A solution for better chances of survival
One question we are often asked is: "How do you make sure that the planted seedlings survive?" In this project, we use an innovative method to increase the chances of survival of the planted seedlings: Hydrogel.
- The hydrogel is a powder that is added to the water.
- It hydrates and is placed in the soil next to the roots of the seedlings.
- It gradually releases the stored water so that the seedlings are supplied with moisture even during dry periods.
- Every time it rains, the hydrogel rehydrates, which keeps the plants supplied with nutrients.
This method ensures that the trees have optimal conditions to take root and grow.
A joint project with heart
This project is not only important for NIKIN and our partner Instituto Terrenus from largeßhe importance, but also for the local population. Around 50 volunteers have already actively helped with the planting. It is particularly nice to see how Children help out enthusiastically and discover the connection to nature.
It is important for the local families to pass these values on to the next generation. They know how important it is to protect nature and ensure a sustainable future. The joy and commitment of the children show that we are not just planting trees here, but also raising awareness and a sense of responsibility.

The vision goes far beyond this: with every tree planted, we are helping to restore nature, empower the local population and draw attention to the global importance of the Cerrado of the Cerrado.
