It's that time again on April 22. Earth Day is taking place all over the world. People on all continents are pausing, taking time to think about the well-being of our planet and taking part in campaigns that call for more attention to urgent problems. NIKIN is also taking part!
It's that time again on April 22. Earth Day is taking place all over the world. People on all continents are pausing, taking time to think about the well-being of our planet and taking part in campaigns that call for more attention to urgent problems. NIKIN is also taking part!
This year, together with our partner, OneTreePlanted, and many volunteers, we will be planting around 5000-8000 trees in the US state of Colorado! We are really looking forward to being part of this and giving something back to the earth. We will keep you up to date via social media!
What is Earth Day?
Earth Day began as a spontaneous student initiative, but quickly gained momentum and was formalized at the Unesco conference in San Francisco in 1969. Half a century of attention to the beauty of our planet - and the dangers that threaten it. Earth Day is formally recognized in 190 countries around the world. Cities and municipalities, voluntary organizations and private individuals want to encourage greater sustainability.
What is Earth Day supposed to achieve?
Earth Day takes place every year on April 22. The most important concern is to shake people awake and, above all, to point out the connections between the consumer behavior of each individual and the overexploitation of nature. Earth Day is not just a celebration, it is a call to action!
What is actually done on Earth Day?
Earth Day is best known for the fact that the lights are switched off for one hour worldwide. But "Earth Day" is much more than that. Every year, there are special focuses and events organized by volunteers around the world. They draw attention to specific topics - this year to the threat to species, from small insects such as bees to large mammals such as giraffes, which are presented in their uniqueness and irreplaceability.
Does it achieve anything, Earth Day?
Yes, absolutely. It raises awareness of the problem and its urgency. Thanks to Earth Day, more and more people are learning that even small actions and a little mindfulness can make a difference. Consume less water. Don't use plastic where possible. Leave the car at home more often. Rethink your own attitude to consumption and its consequences. Earth Day wants to achieve all of this. Worldwide.
Who is doing something?
Around the world, countless volunteers are actively involved in making every single Earth Day a memorable and thought-provoking day. Companies get involved too. Our partner at NIKIN, One Tree Planted, gives volunteers the opportunity to spend a whole morning planting trees - in selected plantations in North and South America, but also in Antalya in Turkey.
Earth Day: Just join in!
But you don't have to shoulder a spade for Earth Day. Just about every one of us can do a dozen things in our immediate surroundings to help preserve the treasures of our planet. That's why we're asking you: Think about everything you pick up on Earth Day and ask yourself: what impact does this item have? This food? This behavior? And: what can I personally do just a little differently to mitigate these effects? You'll see - it's usually not a major restriction. And every individual can help.
