Hot idea: cooking with less electricity.

Life without electricity? Unthinkable and simply impossible for all of us. After all, many devices we use every day run on electrical energy - from e-bikes, scooters and cars to smartphones and consumer electronics. It's no different in the kitchen: without cooking stoves and refrigerators, we would quickly look old. But how can power consumption and electricity costs be reduced? We give four tips on how to save.

1) Suitable pots and lids

Whether it's a pot or a pan, everything you cook with should fit the size of the stovetop exactly. This also applies to the lids that go with them. If they don't close tightly, valuable energy is wasted. You can also save the household budget when cooking with water. Because less water cooks faster. Vegetables, for example, are cooked even if they are only half covered with water. The rest is done automatically by the hot steam.

2) Kettles are smart

Hot water is indispensable - from tea in the morning to pasta for dinner. The best way to do this is with a kettle. It can be used to heat water to exactly the right temperature. It's much faster than using a stovetop pan, very practical and maximally efficient. Also because a stovetop requires much more electricity and stays hot for a long time.

3) Dishwasher save with

Most dishwashers allow you to select eco-programs. The washing process takes longer than with "normal" programs, but it uses less water and less electricity. Simply because it takes less energy when water is heated slowly. Cutlery and dishes and glasses, bowls and pans still get sparkling clean. Plus, it pays not to fire up the dishwasher until it's really full.

4) Unplug devices

Many electrical appliances consume energy even when they are switched off. This is also the case in the kitchen, where many electrical appliances are not used regularly. So if you unplug them, you can only benefit - and have more in your wallet at the end of the month to treat yourself to something good.
