Spring

Get out into nature: great spring activities

On 20 March, the meteorological spring begins. The awakening nature and the warming rays of sunshine lure people out into the fresh air again. The approaching spring has a lot to offer - you can look forward to the following activities in spring.

Spring

Soon it will be time again: spring is just around the corner, the "hibernation" is coming to an end for humans, too, and we can finally go outside into nature again.

What everyone enjoys...

When the days get longer again, the sun shines more often and the air somehow smells different, you are drawn out on your own. Nature lovers have the choice between designed and "free" nature:

  • Excursions to parks and gardens

No matter where you live, there are smaller or larger green spaces, parks or botanical gardens in your neighbourhood. There is a lot going on in spring - some trees are already in blossom before the rest of nature turns green. The early bloomers among the flowers are also already awake - snowdrops, daffodils, hyacinths and tulips compete in spring flowering. Fruit trees prepare their blossoms for bees and the fluffy willow catkins cover the branches with their splendour. So: let's get out there!

  • Forests in the near and far surroundings

In the forest, as mindful and attentive as possible, the awakening of nature can be observed even better. The returning birds can now be heard, and the first green leaves appear in the deciduous or mixed forest. You can feel the forest breathing a sigh of relief after the winter. If you are alone or in a very small group, you can simply sit down and let your mind wander, let the scents of the forest, the sounds and the colours take effect on you. If you are very quiet and patient, there is a good chance of spotting smaller wild animals such as deer doing their "daily errands".

Planting flowers - when, if not now?

Spring is the time of flowers, and you can bring them into your home. This works especially well with flower bulbs. You can plant the first bulbs as early as the beginning of February, and if you leave weekly intervals, brightly coloured flowers will bloom at intervals on your windowsill at home until April. Skilled gardeners can also prepare the bulbs for the next winter from summer onwards.

Picnic in the green

If the weather permits, just pack a basket with goodies and head out into the countryside. Find a sunny spot and enjoy a picnic - why not? You can arrange it according to your mood. There is almost nothing better for children.

But be careful, springtime is also tick time. The small insects can transmit dangerous diseases - so always wear closed shoes and long trousers in the forest. Once you are back home, it is worth checking your body thoroughly.

Spring cooking

In spring there are special treats that you can pick yourself or buy fresh. It doesn't always have to be the first strawberries. Wild garlic is also a big hit. From the end of March and into April, the "wild garlic" grows with its distinctive scent and flavour. It not only smells wonderful in the forest, but is also perfect for making fresh pesto or salad. If you want to collect it yourself, however, you should be careful not to confuse the leaves with the highly poisonous lily of the valley. Both plants love the same locations, but wild garlic releases its garlic scent when you rub the leaves.

Nature activities with children

Children who have hardly been able to play outdoors all winter are even more excited than adults when the inviting outdoors opens its doors again. Off they go with bicycles, badminton rackets and balls. But a walk in the forest or garden is also fun. Especially if you encourage the little ones to identify flowers, trees and animals.

At home, you can make "wanted posters" with pictures for birch, beech and co. and then send the children off to find as many trees and plants as possible. Small prizes for the most eager plant detectives? Colouring books with plant motifs or a plant identification book for older children.

There are more than enough opportunities to enjoy spring!

Of course, these are just a few of the many opportunities to finally take a deep breath at the end of winter, have fun and enjoy nature to the full. In addition, there are guided hikes and walks, sometimes especially for families with children, such as those organised by the Alpine Club, sporting activities and also cultural events such as concerts, as soon as the weather cooperates again. They all have one thing in common - they let us consciously enjoy nature!

At NIKIN, we are primarily concerned with sustainable materials in the fashion industry and fighting against global deforestation. Our blog is intended to contribute to rethinking one's own lifestyle and making it more sustainable. Immersing ourselves in nature makes us "awake" to the many biotopes in our world that are worth protecting.
