The Day of the good deed is a reminder of how much impact small, positive actions can have. Whether you give someone a smile, pick up litter or consciously shop sustainably: Every action counts. And the best thing about it? Doing good doesn't just feel right - it connects, inspires and changes. We'll show you how you too can take part in this year's May 24 you can make a difference with small but meaningful gestures.
What is behind the Day of Good Deeds?
The Day of Good Deeds is a Switzerland-wide initiative that was launched in 2020 by Coop and partner organizations. The idea behind it is to create one day a year on which we all consciously take time to do something good for others - be it for fellow human beings, animals or the environment. This is not about bigße gestures or perfect actions, but real, everyday helpfulness.
The day wants to show: Commitment is not a question of sizeße, but the attitude. And the more people take part, the greater theßhe becomes the effect.

How you can do good - ideas for your day of good deeds:
For the environment
Our environment needs protection - and every little action can help. Here are a few ideas on how you can take action on Good Deed Day (and beyond):
- Collecting garbage: An empty plastic bottle here, a cigarette there - what seems like little things quickly add up. Grab some gloves and a bag and turn your walk into a mini clean-up.
- Take recycling seriously: Not everything belongs in household waste. Batteries, old cell phones and electrical appliances in particular contain substances that need to be disposed of properly. Take the time to take them to an official collection point - this protects the soil, water and air.
- Plant a tree: A tree is more than just a pretty sight - it provides shade, filters CO₂ and provides a habitat for animals. If you don't have space to plant a tree, you can also symbolically plant one by purchasing a NIKIN product.
- Build an insect hotel: Wild bees and other insects can hardly find shelter in many gardens or cities. With a self-built insect hotel, you can create a habitat - and support the pollination of plants right on your doorstep.
- Sowing a flower meadow or greening the balcony: instead of lawns or stone areas, native wildflowers provide valuable food for bees, butterflies and other pollinators. You can also make a difference with a few pots on your windowsill.
- Ride your bike or walk: Short journeys are perfect for sustainable mobility. You save CO₂, get some fresh air and see your surroundings from a new perspective.
- Less food waste: Food waste is a huge problem - but easy to avoid. Plan your meals, only buy what you really need and be creative with leftovers. Maybe someone will be happy about leftover food - sharing is also a good deed.

For other people:
Doing good often starts in small ways - with an open look, an honest word or a moment of genuine attention. Here are a few suggestions on how you can make others happy:
- Neighbors help: Whether elderly people, single parents or newcomers - there are people in every neighborhood who need help. A quick shop, a chat over the garden fence or help with carrying things can make everyday life easier and create real connections.
- Give someone a sincere compliment: A sincere compliment has the power to brighten someone's entire day. Whether you're praising someone's creativity, kindness or outfit - say what you think. It costs nothing and goes a long way.
- Give the gift of time: Time is one of the most valuable gifts we can give. Visit someone you haven't seen for a long time, invite someone for coffee or just really listen - without distractions.
- Helping out at an animal shelter or with a charity: Many organizations are happy to have helping hands - whether it's walking animals at an animal shelter, helping with an environmental project or a fundraising campaign. A good deed that is not only good for others, but also for yourself.
- Writing a postcard or message: When was the last time you wrote to someone just like that? A short greeting, a thank you or a few words of encouragement can arrive at just the right moment and make a big difference.
- Smile instead of scrolling: In the digital world, we sometimes lose sight of the real thing. Don't look at your cell phone while waiting for the bus - instead, smile at the people around you. Who knows how much of a difference you'll make.
